Mary Jo Barbeau - 2nd grade
(Last updated: November 2006)
How long have you worked at Douglass?
I started working at Douglass in 1995 when my son was 5. He ended up being in my first class here.
What are your education credentials?
I first began teaching when I lived in Japan where I taught English. After graduating high school
in Asia, I returned to the U.S. for college and majored in Special Education and taught in the
Boulder Valley School District until our first child was born. A few more "years and children" later,
I returned to teaching and worked in my own school, a private school and other Boulder Valley
Schools. I added on a few more degrees and finally had the privilege of landing in Douglass.
I have also taught pre-school through high school, multi-level classes, regular and special education.
What do you most enjoy about teaching?
I consider working at Douglass a true honor and I am glad to be part of the team.
What's your favorite thing to do outside of school?
Spending time with my family, swimming, hiking and visiting with close friends. Traveling
is a popular interest in our family and we have done extensive trips the past years
including Europe and Asia.
Will you tell us about your family?
I have three children, Danielle, Christina and Marc. My husband, Roger, often makes appearances at school to help with some projects.
