Biography of Jill Maxwell
How long have you been at Douglass?
I started at Douglass in January of 2005.
What are your education credentials?
I have a Bachelors degree in Communication Arts and I am working on my Co-Active Coaching Certification. I have been a TAG Educational Advisor at Coal Creek and Heatherwood Elementary Schools for five years and at Manhattan Middle School. In addition, I have taken many classes and workshops on teaching gifted students with such experts as Bertie Kingore, Susan Winebrenner, Roger Taylor, Carolyn Coil, Karen Rogers,George Betts, Sally Reis and Joe Renzulli.
What do you most enjoy about teaching or working with kids?
I love how kids learn and make connections between new things and what they already know. I enjoy giving them tools to understand what they learn and helping them discover what is already inside them! I appreciate that kids are really in the moment and I like the fact that my job is different every day!
What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
I donŐt really have a "favorite" but some of the most fun activities I enjoy are reading, skiing, scuba diving, sculpting, taking classes, eating chocolate and traveling. I also have a small business doing life coaching with individuals and teaching group classes in creative expression. I like connecting with kids and adults in an authentic way.
What would you like to share with us about your family?
I have three teenaged kids. They are very creative and artistic. We love to see live music events, host foreign students, watch independent films, study German, take road trips and go to Krispy Kreme together for fresh hot doughnuts!
