The Parent Engagement Network (PEN) is a Boulder Valley parent-based organization, created to bring our community together via interactive gatherings that address a variety of parenting issues. The purpose of these gatherings is to help educate parents on topics involving our youth and encourage relationship-building so we can create a caring and safe community for our youth inside and outside of the school environment. PEN engages parents and the community in fostering youth resiliency and developing solutions to high-risk behaviors.

* HOW TO TALK TO OUR KIDS ABOUT HEALTH TOPICS *
Thursday, March 6, 2008
9:00am Networking
9:30-11:00am Presentation
Boulder Recycling Center, 1901 63rd Street, Boulder
Thoughts and behaviors are strongly influenced by values, beliefs, and attitudes about topics like sexuality, drugs, and alcohol. Before talking with the children in your life it is useful to examine where you stand on these subjects.
Parents and caregivers have a tremendous influence on a child’s decisions. Knowing what youth are hearing and doing when it comes to these high-risk behaviors will assist you in guiding them in a positive way.
Katy Fleming, BVSD Health Education Coordinator and Chet Chavez, LPC, LAC will provide information and resources to help guide you in these discussions. Identify what beliefs and attitudes you hold to prepare yourself to have meaningful conversations with the children in your life. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
