August 2007

Dear Douglass Parents:

The Parent Teacher Organization/School Improvement Team is a great way to get involved with Douglass culture and projects as well as school district news and information. I encourage you to get involved.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the PTO/SIT is to sponsor monthly meetings to allow parents and guardians to discuss school, home and community issues; organize fundraising activities; coordinate volunteers for all school activities; and help establish, facilitate and monitor School Improvement Goals.

WAYS TO STAY INFORMED There are many ways for you to connect with PTO/SIT happenings. EVENTS:

We have shifted some events based on results from a fundraising survey at the end of the 2006 - 2007 school year. Please remember that not all fundraising events held through Douglass fund the PTO. This year, the events that will specifically fund the PTO/SIT budget will include:

PLAYGROUND REVITALIZATION

Groundbreaking on phase one of the playground revitalization will include drainage, grading and sprinklers. The Playground Design Team will want to meet with the parent community for input and feedback on the design in February 2008. Work will begin over the summer.

VOLUNTEER

One of the primary ways PTO/SIT enriches the environment at Douglass is through parent volunteers. Our volunteer coordinators are Beth Pulford and Hilary Wallace. Please call and volunteer!

We are interested in having one "classroom parent" who will share PTO news with your parents in your childŐs class. Please contact us if you are interested - this is a great way to get involved.

PTO/SIT BUDGET UPDATE

A huge Thank You to our Treasurer Beth Ellis. Beth has pulled together information about income and expenses over the last few years and shares funding trends. Take a look and see where your contributions go!

Make school cool and get involved - see you soon
