BVSD Safety Statement
Boulder Valley School District takes the safety of students very seriously. ItŐs accurate to note that this is our highest priority when students leave their homes each day.
BVSD has a District Crisis Team which is trained and practiced in school emergencies. Fortunately, most crisis during the year are related to school operations (power outages, water main breaks, etc). However, each member is well aware of the gravity of any school emergency and plans are in place for various situations, including school violence. The plans are based on best practices which have developed in recent years from our lessons from other school districts nationally. The Security Department is a 24/7 operation and high schools have security agents assigned to them.
Each school is expected to have a similar plan which is also practiced regularly. At the minimum, schools are required to practice evacuations monthly, and lock-downs can be practiced in conjunction with these monthly activities or can be run instead of a fire drill. All schools have anti-bullying programs, reporting mechanisms, and LINKS/WEB initiatives. Schools are provided emergency communication radios, and principals are required to carry a cell phone for independent contact. Finally, all high schools and some middle schools have School Resource Officers assigned to them.
